BIO AND PURPOSE
I am a Midwesterner. I was born in northern Illinois and raised in Ohio. I lived in several other parts of the country before setting roots here in Iowa.
I am a doctor and a long-time partner in the McFarland Clinic. I studied medicine at the University of North Dakota, interned in Stockton, CA and did my neurology training in St. Louis. After training, I joined the faculty at the University of Iowa.
In St. Louis I met a Des Moines native, Jean Beatty. Soon thereafter, Jean and I married, settling in Huxley after leaving Iowa City in 1990. Together we raised three children who have grown up and started their own families.
I am active in my community and my church. I have traveled on church missions to rural Honduras for the past six years to install water cleaning systems. I also have served on the Story County Soil and Water Commission for the past six years. I belong to the Izaak Walton League and am a proud member of the Ballard community band.
I am running to be the State Representative for House District 49 because I know the challenges we are facing and don't believe our current leaders are helping everyday Iowans address these problems.
